19-year-old Danielson Varela faces charges in deadly shooting of Cristiano Macedo at New Bedford Morna Lounge and Grill
Police have charged Danielson Varela, a 19-year-old resident of New Bedford, in relation to a fatal shooting incident that took place Saturday at the Morna Lounge and Grill located on Acushnet Avenue.
According to law enforcement officials, the incident claimed one life and left two women wounded.
The shooting, which occurred Saturday inside the well-known establishment, claimed the life of 27-year-old Cristiano Macedo, a New Bedford resident.
Two female bystanders suffered gunshot injuries and received medical treatment.
Following his arrest on Sunday, Varela now confronts several charges, including:
- First-degree murder
- Unlawful possession of a firearm
- Carrying a loaded firearm
- Two counts of assault and battery with a firearm
His arraignment is set for Monday at the New Bedford District Court.
The investigation continues actively with Massachusetts State Police detectives from the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office working alongside New Bedford Police and Homicide Unit prosecutors.
Officials have yet to disclose specifics about the circumstances preceding the shooting or Varela’s suspected role.
